Welcome back for episode 75 of The Bodybuilding Dietitians Podcast!
On this week's episode Jack and Tyarra interviewed Scott Meiklejohn. Scott is a physiotherapist and founder of the performance and rehabilitation centre "Effectus Physio". On this episode Scott provides evidence-based answers to various physio related questions and discusses topics of great interest!
Points of discussion include:
- Scott’s credentials, work history, powerlifting pursuits and his client demographic
- What is physiotherapy?
- How does physiotherapy differ to other forms of physical treatment (e.g. massage, chiro)?
- In what instances would Scott recommend working with a physio?
- The process of diagnosis and treatment for a client
- So many gym goers are susceptible to lower back pain. Why are these injuries so prevalent and what are some preventative measures that people can take?
- Is butt winking, lumbar spine flexion etc. always a bad thing during squats?
- The role of a lifting belt in a compound lift and how should they be used?
- The most common injuries Scott has seen in bodybuilders and what he would suggest to mitigate this early on
- How important are pelvic floor exercises for women who lift?
- Is it beneficial to have regular physio assessments for overall imbalances?
- Is asymmetry with movements bad (e.g. one foot turned more outwards)?
- Biggest tips for student physios?
- Should you be worried if your joints make popping or clicking sounds?
